Dear Sir,
Here they are the comments of our technical department:
The Council’s video streaming project is a new project. It has been available since September last year, but is still in many ways under development, and therefore perfectible. This project is part of the Council’s wider efforts to open up its work to the public. It aims to enable Internet users to view public events in the Council - including Council public deliberations - live or later from an archive. It is a project aimed at openness and accessibility for European (and other) citizens, and
therefore does not intend to exclude anyone.
In this context, our IT services are currently working on the issue of compatibility with other systems including open sources softwares. Already today, the open source community can follow the public events in the Council, broadcasted through video streaming on the Internet, via means of an open source player like VLC which is available at no cost on the Internet
and which is running on several platforms as eg MS WINDOWS as well as some LINUX distributions.
We will modify the FAQs to introduce the availability of the system for the Linux users.
Sincerely,
DGF Information to the public
General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union
